Grade 4 - Health Education

Learner Outcome
W-4.3 Describe physical, emotional and social changes that occur during puberty; e.g., menstruation, secondary sexual characteristics, changing identity and moods.

This week the grade 4 students had a lesson about puberty. Puberty can be a challenge. It helps to have a parent or an adult you trust to talk to about your questions or concerns. All adults have gone through the changes of growing up. Having your parent or a supportive adult share their experience of growing up can help you during your own experience of puberty.

Homework: Students took home an interview questionnaire to talk with an adult about our lesson. Please take the time to read the questions and talk with you son/daughter about your experience growing up.

Note: Grade 3 stayed working in Ms. Nielsen's classroom during this class. Grade 4 students are not suppose to share what they are learning and discussing during Health Education.

Math | Fractions

This week we started working with Fractions. Students did a few practices and the problem of the week was based on doubling and halving ingredients for baking cookies and brownies. We use fractions all the time in real life, even when we don't think about them. Below is the video we watched about fractions today. You can review the key concepts with your child at home.

Writing Challenge

Today we learned how to use StoryJumper to create our e-books. Students that finished their stories on paper and typed on Google Docs started to develop their own books. We discussed about how to use the 'spell check' to fix their mistakes before creating their books. Additionally, everyone shared their stories with a partner to receive feedback and revise their work before publishing their stories. Ask your child if they started their books!
