Calvin's Thought of the Week:

“To accomplish great things,
we must not only act,
but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.”

Anatole France

The Power of Believe

The way we understand our intelligence and abilities deeply impacts our success.  We started our day discussing how mindset, or the understanding of intelligence and abilities, is key.  When students or adults see their abilities as fixed, whether they think they're naturals or just not built for a certain domain, they avoid challenge and lose interest when things get hard.  Conversely, when they understand that abilities are developed, they more readily adopt learning-oriented behaviours such as deliberate practice and grit that enable them to achieve their goals. But this belief is itself malleable, and there are clear actions we can all take to establish a growth mindset and enable success for our children, our peers and ourselves.

Gymnastics!!!
We began gymnastics in our regularly scheduled gym classes on Monday, January 6, 2020.  The gymnastics unit will last approximately four weeks.  Safety routines, cooperation and good sportsmanship are taught and reviewed in each class.

This physical activity opportunity will help students acquire individual skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities.

It is important for students to come to school prepared for being actively engaged. The following guidelines are very helpful…

HEAD TO TOE - READY TO GO!!!

Head ....................... long hair pulled back
Ears/Throat/Wrist ............... jewelry off
Shirt.................................. one layer shirt
Waist ................................................tucked in
Pants.........................sporty pants or shorts, no belts or zippers
Ankles..........................pants rolled up if ankles are covered
Toes...............running shoes, gymnastic slippers or bare feet (no footed tights)

“Playing & moving safely is everyone’s responsibility”

New Friend
Today we also received a new student in our classroom. Ask your child what he/she learned about our new friend!
